“We have heard of Moab’s pride—her overweening pride and conceit, her pride and arrogance and the haughtiness of her heart.”
~ Jeremiah 48:29
Hi James and Ellen,
As you are listening to your dad and your ma and your teacher and your pastor and . . . reading the Bible Book out loud, what do you remember the most about what has been read in the Bible Book? Do you remember real life stories that are in the Bible? Do you remember God’s promises that are in the Bible? Do you remember doomsday warnings that are for guys, gals and kids who do not obey God’s words and do not heed God’s truths that are in the Bible? As an outspoken spokesman for God between 626 B.C. and 585 B.C., Jeremiah doggedly prophesied for over forty years. The words – which are very dire, dismal warnings, that God – as God the Spirit, breathed on Jeremiah to scribe, Jeremiah – in his Jeremiah Book, passed on to God’s specially chosen guys and gals – who are the Israelite people group guys and gals, who were living in the land area that God gave to them to always to have as their very own land to live in . . . and he passed on very gloomy, grim warnings to nine different countries that were situated near the land area that God gave to His specially chosen guys and gals to . . . what Jeremiah scribed in what became Jeremiah 48 is God – as God the Spirit, breathing on Jeremiah a warning promise of something that was going to take place very soon. The land area of Moab was the next country on the hit list that God – as God the Father, had made to face His reprisal and suffer His retribution for the abject way that the guys and gals in the land of Moab had treated His specially chosen guys and gals. Jeremiah would not get the opportunity to witness the playing out of the prophetic words that he recorded in his Jeremiah Book about what was going to take place in the land area of Moab. Three years after Jeremiah died – which was in 582 B.C., Nebuchadnezzar and his Babylonian army invaded the land area of Moab. What Jeremiah scribed about in his Jeremiah Book regarding what was going to take place in the land area of Moab took place. Towns such as Nebo, Kiriathaim, Heshbon and other towns as well as the national pet god – Chemosh, that was worshiped by guys and gals who were living in land area of Moab, were destroyed and smashed to pieces like ceramic jugs or jars being thrown to the ground by Nebuchadnezzar’s Babylonian army.
God’s case against the guys and gals who were living in the land area of Moab began years and years earlier. After Abraham’s nephew Lot had his oldest daughter get him drunk, she got her dad to do something with her that was wrong for Lot to do. Lot and his daughter named their kid Moab. Moab became the patriarch of a nation of guys and gals called the Moabites. The Moabite people group guys and gals settled the land area that is located east of the Jordan River and the Dead Sea. When God’s specially chosen guys and gals were on their final leg to the land area that God was giving to them to always to have as their very own land to live in if . . . God’s specially guys and gals had to pass through the Moabite people group’s land area. God specifically instructed His specially chosen guys and gals to not to vex the Moabite people group guys and gals. But after Balak – who was the Moabite people group’s king, had Balaam curse God’s specially chosen guys and gals and after Moabite gals seduced guys from the Israelite people group’s twelve tribal clans, God gave the land area of Moab to His specially chosen guys and gals. The Reuben tribal clan ended up with the majority of the land area of Moab. This land area of Moab included the towns of Nebo and Heshbon. God had not been okay with the Moabite people group guys and gals trying to mess up the forty year exodus that His specially chosen guys and gals had made to the land area that would become known as Israel. God would not forget what took place in the land area of Moab as God’s specially chosen guys and gals were passing through that land area on their way to the ‘promised land’. God is not okay with guys and gals – like the Moabite people group guys and gals, who do something that unambiguously defies Him. Verse 29 says “‘We have heard of Moab’s pride—her overweening pride and conceit, her pride and arrogance and the haughtiness of her heart.” God – as God the Father – through Himself – as God the Spirit, promised that He would have His destroyer enter every town in the land area of Moab to kill the young guys and to ruin every valley and destroy every plateau. The day when God – through Nebuchadnezzar and his Babylonian army, poured out His wrath on the land area of Moab, guys and gals tried to escape in every direction from the horrific horror that they were facing. Joy became a thing of the past for the guys and gals who were living in the land area of Moab. The time became a time of hopeless mourning for the Moabite people group guys and gals. The land area of Moab became ridiculed by its neighbors. Moab illustrates what takes place to a guy, gal or kid when he or she vexes and/or defies God.
Are you pulling being Moabite people group kids? Moabite people group guys and gals were not fearful of God. Moabite people group guys and gals did not respect God’s specially chosen guys and gals. Moabite people group guys and gals approached life with an arrogant spirit and a haughty heart. When you get older and begin working jobs with other guys and gals, you will be taught life lessons through the lives of your coworkers. One of the missionary guys who was on the field missionary team in Guatemala that your grandmaa and grandpaa were on told mistruths to other missionaries in other mission agencies to make himself look better. The mission agency that your grandmaa and grandpaa were with finally asked Len to resign from the mission because of his self-promoting conceit and egotistical attitude. Even though the mission knew that your grandpaa was willing to work with Len, your grandpaa knew that because of a pride spirit manipulating Len, the mission did not have a choice what to do.
