“The proverb of Solomon: A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son grief to his mother.”
~ Proverbs 10:1
Hi James and Ellen,
Are you hoping that as you grow older that you will make your dad happy? Are you hoping that as you grow older that you will make your ma sad? Do you know what kind of kid would make your dad glad? Do you know what kind of kid would make your ma sad? To make a dad glad is good. To make a ma sad is not good. Do you know how a kid can make his or her dad glad? Do you know how a kid can make his or her ma sad? Do you think that a kid can make his or her dad glad and his or her ma sad by what he or she does and/or says? Do you make your dad glad and your ma sad by what you do and/or say? Solomon wanted to do and say things that would make his dad glad. Solomon wrote mini life messages for kids on how to grow up to make their dads glad. Solomon also wrote mini life messages for kids on how to grow up to make their mas sad. Solomon – starting with Proverbs 10, recorded 375 mini life messages for kids – and for dads and mas. These mini life messages that were chronicled by Solomon for kids – and for dads and mas, go on for another eleven and a half chapters. Verse 1 “The proverb of Solomon: A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son grief to his mother.” starts out Solomon’s mini life messages for kids – and for dad and mas. What does Solomon say a wise son does for his dad? A wise son makes his dad glad. Does Solomon say that a wise son if he becomes rich will make his dad glad? Does Solomon say that a wise son if he becomes well-known will make his dad glad? Does Solomon say that a wise son if he lives in a big house will make his dad glad? Solomon says that a kid just needs to be wise if he or she wants to make his or her dad glad. What does Solomon say a foolish son does for his ma? A foolish son makes his ma sad. Does Solomon say that a foolish son is the kind of kid that a ma would like to have? Does Solomon say a foolish son works? Does Solomon say a foolish son says intelligent things? Does Solomon say a foolish son knows to do the right thing? Solomon says that if a kid wants to make his or her ma sad, he or she does not work, he or she talks unintelligently and he or she never does what is right to do. A wise kid will grow up having his dad proud of him or her. A kid who does not care about the feelings of his or her ma will grow up making his or her ma’s heart sad. Your grandpaa would really like to know one day why Solomon wrote the initial proverb the way that he did – saying that it is the dad who will be glad if he has a wise son while it is the ma who will be sad if she has a foolish son.
Your grandpaa knows that he is making your dad’s grandpa glad. Your grandpaa knows that he is not making your dad’s grandma sad. Your grandpaa’s bros and sisters are making your dad’s grandpa glad. Your grandpaa’s bros and sisters are not making your dad’s grandma sad. Your grandpaa’s dad wanted to make his dad glad. Your grandpaa’s dad did not want to make his ma sad. When your grandpaa’s dad married your grandpaa’s ma – which is now almost sixty-three years ago, your grandpaa’s grandpa helped your dad’s grandpa buy the farm that is located across the road from where your grandpaa’s grandpa homesteaded when he got to South Dakota. A homestead is a portion of land that no one else has ever lived on or owned as their property. Your grandpaa’s grandpa had to use horses to farm the land that he homesteaded. Your grandpaa’s dad had to work really hard when he was kid doing things that are no longer done today – like picking and shucking corn by hand. How would you liked to have lived eighty years ago when your grandpaa’s dad was a kid? Your grandpaa thinks that it would have been fun. It was hard though eighty years ago for kids like your grandpaa’s dad to go to a school. Your grandpaa’s dad never went to high school. Your grandpaa’s first year in school was in a one room rural schoolhouse.
Your grandpaa’s dad and ma made sure that your grandpaa worked hard on the farm where your grandpaa grew up as a kid. Your grandpaa’s dad and ma know how to live with what they have. Your grandpaa’s dad and ma have never borrowed money to buy something. Your grandpaa’s dad is a very wise dad. When your dad’s grandpa says something, guys will listen to what your dad’s grandpa says. Your grandpaa’s dad does not like to speak in front of a group of guys and gals. Your grandpaa’s dad and ma are examples of a dad and a ma who are righteous. Your grandpaa’s dad and ma have been examples to your grandpaa and to your grandpaa’s bros and sisters of how a dad and ma read the Bible and pray every day. Your grandpaa’s dad and ma have been examples to your grandpaa and to your grandpaa’s bros and sisters of how a dad and ma work hard, plan, plant and harvest crops and feed kids. Your grandpaa’s dad and ma have been examples to your grandpaa and to your grandpaa’s bros and sisters of how a dad and ma will always do the right thing and be blessed because they did. Your grandpaa’s dad and ma know God as their Heavenly Father. Your grandpaa’s dad and ma fear God – which means that your grandpaa’s dad and ma do things to please and bless God as they did not want God to be sad or angry about what they say or do. When your grandpaa’s dad and ma were married for sixty years, their kids, their kids’ spouses and a number of their grandkids and their spouses got together to help your grandpaa’s dad and ma celebrate their anniversary. Your grandpaa’s dad seriously urged his kids and the grandkids who were there – and the spouses, how important that it was to him that each kid, grandkid and spouse be prepared to go to heaven as he was ready to go there. Your grandpaa believes that God is now giving your dad’s grandpa more days on planet Earth because your grandpaa’s dad grew up to accept God’s discipline to help him each day live his life for God’s sake. Are you making your dad glad and your ma sad?
