“O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.”
~ Psalm 8:1
Hi James and Ellen,
Do you like the way that your Father God uses the firmament to entertain you? Do you like the way that your Father God fills night skies with arrays of lights? How do you feel or what do you think when you see a lightning bolt suddenly flash across the sky? What do you do when you hear a loud crashing, crackling roll or peal of thunder? What wish do you make when you see a shooting star – a meteor or comet, streaking through a night sky? Have you ever seen and then wondered why there is a swath of stars called the Milky Way splattered across the sky? Do you ever wish that you could be the sky’s white eye – the moon, which is always slowly turning its round eye while it watches closely what is taking place on planet Earth? Do you wish that you could paint the morning sunrises and the evening sunsets just like the Heavenly Artist – your Father God, does? Do you ever wish that you could jump into the aqua blue pool that hovers during daylight hours over planet Earth and ride around above planet Earth on the pool’s white, fluffy cloud rafts?
Your grandpaa thinks that David was resting under a star filled night sky when his Father God prompted him to scribe the psalm song that became Psalm 8 in the Psalms Book, This psalm song is one of three psalm songs that are known as gittiths. A David authored psalm song known as a gittith may have been scribed by David when he was hiding out in Gath. Gath was located in the Philistine land area. Gath means winepress. The Hebrew word for a winepress is gittith. This psalm song that David scribed to be a gittith lyre or music psalm song is now referenced as being one of the three psalm songs of the winepress. Do you know what a winepress is? A winepress during the time when David lived on planet Earth was a place where guys and gals walked or stomped on ripe grapes in order to squash the juice out of the grapes. The juice from the grapes that was squashed out of the grapes by guys and gals walking or stomping on them in a winepress would ferment causing the grape juice to become wine. The guys and gals as they walked or stomped on grapes, would hold onto ropes that were strung over their heads and over the winepress. Your grandpaa does not know the time of the year at the time when David lived about 3000 years ago on planet Earth when guys and gals walked or stomped on grapes in winepresses. Your grandpaa thinks that it could be plausible that David was at times one of the guys who walked or stomped around in a winepress squashing grapes. Your grandpaa also thinks that it could be plausible that the ripe grapes were walked or stomped on at times at night versus during the day. If the ripe grapes were walked or stomped on sometimes at night, your grandpaa can visualize a number of guys inside a winepress walking and stomping on the ripe grapes while hanging onto the ropes that were strung over their heads across the winepress – which would have had these guys looking up at the night sky as they were walking or stomping on the grapes. Whenever and wherever it was when and where David scribed this psalm song, David was deeply impressed and inspired by the awesome majesty of the Creator’s – His Father God’s, creation. David in verse 1 scribed, “O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.” The next lines of this David psalm song tells how kids like you – and little babies, are the ones who your Father God has chosen to look at everything around them and to give Him the praise for everything that He has created on planet Earth and in the sky that hangs over and nourishes planet Earth.
How do you feel or what do you think about your Father God’s creation? How do you feel or what do you think about being a little lower than heavenly beings – such as angels, whose expectation is is to be always singing praises to God the Father? How do you feel or what do you think about the fact that you have authority over all the animals, birds, fish – over every single creature that is on planet Earth? How do you feel or what do you think when your Father God puts a show on just for you to show off to you the majestic beauty and awesome power of His creation? Something that your grandmaa and grandpaa have really enjoyed doing each summer has been to oversee the schedule, travel and activities if a summer team. A summer team is primarily composed of college age guys and gals. A summer team will spend between seven and eight weeks in a foreign country – where each guy and gal on the summer team will experientially get to know guys, gals and kids who live in the country, see their cultural and societal norms, be involved in hands-on ministries and hear God – as God the Spirit, speaking personally about His will that He has for each one exclusively. A place in Bolivia where your grandmaa and grandpaa would take each summer team to – to spend two or three days, was a railroad town called Chochís. One way in and out of Chochís was by freight trains. A freight train would arrive in Chochis at any time. A freight train rarely stayed stopped for very long in Chochís as Chochís was not a big town. When your grandmaa and grandpaa had to get off or on a freight train in Chochís with a summer team, every guy and gal on the summer team had to do it superfast. One summer one year – on a cool night until very early the next morning, no one who was on and who was traveling with the summer team minded waiting alongside the railroad tracks that go through Chochis for the freight train to arrive that would take everyone who was on and traveling with the summer team to where everyone would be able to cross over Brazil’s border into Corumbá where everyone would spend three or four days to decompress because throughout the entire night, God sent meteorites streaming across the sky in all directions to entertain everyone.
