“When Haman entered, the king asked him, “‘What should be done for the man the king delights to honor?’” Now Haman thought to himself, ‘“Who is there that the king would rather honor than me?”’
~ Esther 6:6

Hi James and Ellen,

Do you know what sovereign means? Your grandpaa has a feeling that you do not know what the meaning of sovereign is. Sovereign means having authority over all things. Sovereign implies inclusive reign over all things. Sovereign denotes a Supreme Being. God has absolute authority over all things. God reigns inclusively over all things. God is the Supreme Being. As the Supreme Being, God planned out how everything would play out on planet Earth until the final battle takes place at a place called Armageddon. Armageddon is where God will have Lucifer – a fallen angel who is known today as Satan or the devil, defeated once and for all. The Esther Book was written to give an example of how God’s sovereignty works. The Esther Book was written as an allegory. God’s name is not mentioned in the Esther Book. The characters in the Easter Book represent different entities – such as Esther as God the Son or Jesus, Mordecai as God the Holy Spirit, King Xerxes as God the Father and Haman as Lucifer or Satan. The main theme of the Esther Book is to prove that God is the Supreme Being Who completely controls time and circumstances. The storyline of Easter 6 begins with a Persian king – King Xerxes, not being able to sleep. At the very same time that King Xerxes is having trouble sleeping, the bad guy – Haman, is having gallows constructed to hang the good Jew – Mordecai, who Haman thoroughly detests. Because he is unable to get to sleep, King Xerxes decided that he would do some reading. King Xerxes asked that the chronicled book be brought to him. The chronicled book had incidents recorded that had taken place during King Xerxes reign as Persia’s king. While he was reading the chronicled book, King Xerxes discovered that five years earlier that the good Jew – Mordecai, had saved his life by passing on information about a couple of his officers – Bigthana and Teresh, who were making plans to murder him. When King Xerxes found out that Mordecai had never been rewarded for saving his life, he decided that he needed to do something to reward Mordecai. As King Xerxes was thinking about what he should do to reward Mordecai, the bad guy – Haman, came into King Xerxes’ palace’s outer court. Verse 6 says, “When Haman entered, the king asked him, “‘What should be done for the man the king delights to honor?’” Now Haman thought to himself, ‘“Who is there that the king would rather honor than me?”’ Haman told King Xerxes that a proper honor would be to have the guy ride on a horse that King Xerxes had once rode while wearing a royal robe that King Xerxes had once worn. King Xerxes then asked Haman to be the guy to lead Mordecai around on a horse that he had once ridden while Mordecai was wearing a royal robe that he had once worn. How do you think that Haman felt when King Xerxes told him that Mordecai was who he wanted honored? Haman was one mad dude!

When your grandmaa and grandpaa first went to Guatemala, your grandmaa and grandpaa drove to Guatemala in their car. The trip to Guatemala took days to make. Your grandmaa and grandpaa had to stop at the Mexico border to have paperwork done on their car so that they could drive their car through Mexico into Guatemala. When your grandmaa and grandpaa finally got into the line of vehicles that were crossing the United States border into Mexico, it had gotten too late to get across the border. Your grandmaa and grandpaa ended up having to spend a night in a motel in a town on the United States side of the United States and Mexico border. Your grandmaa and grandpaa the next morning decided to get visas in the United States to go into Mexico instead of getting visas once they were in Mexico. When your grandmaa and grandpaa got to where they were to cross the border into Mexico, there was a very long line of vehicles waiting to cross the United States border into Mexico. Your grandmaa and grandpaa did not realize it when they first saw the line of vehicles that the line of vehicles continued on the other side of the road so far away that they could not even see the end of the line. Your grandpaa was stopped by a policeman who told your grandpaa that he could not cut into the line. The policeman suggested to your grandpaa that your grandpaa drive alongside the line of vehicles to the front of the line where your grandpaa could take another street to the end of the line of vehicles. It seemed like your grandmaa and grandpaa would have to spend the most of another day to cross the United States border into Mexico. When your grandpaa got to the front of the line of vehicles that were next in line to cross over into Mexico, your grandpaa stopped to ask a guy if it was possible to join the vehicles that were waiting to cross into Mexico as he and your grandmaa had spent a lot of the day before waiting in another line of vehicles. Your grandpaa was told that he and your grandmaa did not have a choice – that your grandmaa and grandpaa would have to go to the end of the line of vehicles and . . . just as your grandpaa started to leave, the next group of a dozen or so vehicles were waved ahead to cross over the Mexican border. When your grandmaa and grandpaa got the paperwork done the day before on their car, a number was written on their car’s windshield. The boss of the place that did the paperwork just happened to see your grandpaa’s car as your grandpaa was getting ready to go past the entrance into Mexico. The guy jumped in front of your grandpaa’s car – waving his arms like a lunatic. The only thing that your grandpaa could do was to join the other vehicles that were driving over the border crossing into Mexico.

How do you think that your grandmaa and grandpaa felt when they realized that they would not have to start over again in another long line? Your grandmaa and grandpaa were very thankful for God’s sovereign intervention.
