“‘But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”’
~ Micah 5:2
Hi James and Ellen,
Micah was a prophet who lived on planet Earth about 700 years before Jesus was born. A prophet who lived during the Old Testament period was a guy who God spoke through to tell His specially chosen guys and gals – the Israelite people group’s guys and gals, what was going to take place in the future. Micah’s years of being a prophet to God’s specially chosen guys and gals spanned the reigns of three Judah kings – Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah. God’s assigned task for Micah during the years that He had Micah as a prophet on planet Earth was to pass on from Him some fascinating news and frightful warnings to His specially chosen guys and gals who lived in Judah’s land area. Micah scribed in his Micah Book what is now Micah 5 a particularly intriguing foretelling of the pending arrival of an incarnated guy who . . . even though Micah as a prophet had to have known that God was going to someday send a ‘savior’, your grandpaa can picture Micah scratching his head while thinking ‘is this for real’ as he scribed what God was telling him to pass on to His specially chosen guys and gals. How do you think that Micah felt when God told him to tell His specially chosen guys and gals the name of the town where Jesus would be born? Micah scribed in verse 2 what God told him to pass on to His specially chosen guys and gals “‘But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”’ Do you know Who the guy was Who was born in Bethlehem Ephrathah? Jesus was Who was born in the small town of Bethlehim Ephrathah. Bethlehem is five miles southwest of Jerusalem. Why do you think that God would choose the small town of Bethlehem instead of choosing the much larger city of Jerusalem to have Himself – as God the Son, to be born?
What do you think that life was like when Micah was alive – which was about 2700 years ago. How do you think that God’s specially chosen guys and gals lived 2700 years ago? What do you think that kids – like you, did 2700 years ago? Do you think that kids 2700 years ago studied in schools, attended churches and were taught about the Triune God? Your grandpaa has no idea what kids 2700 years ago did or how and what they were taught. God’s specially chosen guys and gals who lived in Judah’s land area 2700 years ago had an enemy – Assyrian guys, who really wanted God’s specially chosen guys and gals who lived in Judah’s land area wiped out. Micah probably could see the handwriting on the wall that God would much sooner than later have an enemy do a number on God’s specially chosen guys and gals who lived in Judah’s land area. What do you think that it was that Micah could see that God’s specially chosen guys and gals who lived in Judah’s land area could not see? Micah could see that God’s specially chosen guys and gals who lived in Judah’s land area were worshipping inanimate gods made from wood, stone and metal, using Asherah poles and practicing witchcraft instead of just worshipping God. It would not have been hard for Micah to also tell and scribe what God wanted him to tell and scribe – which was a dire warning from God to His specially chosen guys and gals who lived in Judah’s land area of a pending siege by an enemy because of their atrocious wickedness confronting God. Micah had to have known what Moses had written hundreds of years earlier in the Book of the Law that if God’s specially chosen guys and gals did not live their lives worshipping only God that He would . . . about 120 years after Micah scribed his letter, an enemy – Babylonia, did a number on God’s specially chosen guys and gals who lived in Judah’s land area. What do you think that Micah’s thoughts were when God also had him scribe a promise that He would always have His specially chosen guys and gals live in Judah’s land area as well as always have a remnant of His specially chosen guys and gals live throughout planet Earth?
Why do you think that God chose your grandmaa and grandpaa and your dad and ma and your Aunt Lynn and Uncle Chris and . . . to be His specially elected adopted kids? Do you ever think about what God has already done, is presently doing and will do? Why do you think that God has done what He has done, is doing what He is doing and will do what He will do? God was very clear why He has done what He has done, is doing what He is doing and will do what He will do when He had Micah scribe that He will not allow to continue on planet Earth the disobeying of His will. God told His specially chosen guys and gals through Micah that He is not happy with them because how they are willingly disobeying Him by making themselves and stuff more important than Him. There is no doubt in your grandpaa’s mind that because of the decisions that have been made by courts here in the United States that now prohibit the Bible to be found in schools, that prohibit praying in public schools, that ruled that a fetus is an invasive disease and can be removed, that a kid can decide what sex that he or she wants to be, that . . . that God is very displeased today with guys and gals who live in the United States. Your grandpaa is really struggling today going to churches that lack fervency – that are filled with guys and gals satisfying a societal expectation. God has been very explicit over and over again how He expected His specially chosen guys and gals to live and how He is expecting His specially elected guys and gals to live. God had Micah make His case when He reaffirmed a promise that he had made to His specially chosen guys and gals by having Micah scribe the exact town where He would have a ‘savior’ be born while also telling them that He was going to punish them. Are your learning why you need to always obey God’s will? You need to remember that God does not hesitate to punish guys, gals and kids who do not obey Him.
